2020 Education, Training, & Learning Trends

We're at the tail end of 2019 and many of us are thinking about New Year's resolutions and setting personal goals. Our team likes to take the opportunity to set professional and workplace goals as well. We have been preparing ourselves by following the anticipated trends in education, training, and learning environments for 2020. We've learned a lot and we're feeling inspired! 2020 will be our best year yet so we wanted to share a little of what others have been saying about the future of interactive video. Check out our favorite three trends below!

The possibilities feel endless!
Self-Led Learning
Okay, so this one isn't technically news for us. After all, we've been talking about the benefits of letting learners set their own pace until we're blue in the face. However, it seems like folks with much bigger readerships than ours have started talking about it too! Researchers at Deloitte and LinkedIn recently put out reports discussing the time constraints faced by employees and the greater successes that have been observed through the use of self-paced learning options.

When learners feel empowered to set the pace, they're more likely to complete and, more importantly, succeed in their learning goals and objectives.

Video and Learning
Is this one cheating? It kind of feels like cheating. Schools and universities that use video in their educational environments have seen a pretty dramatic increase in interactive video use and its benefits. It can be easier said than done but purposeful video content, particularly when it features interactive/engaging elements, has helped educators see increasing success in their courses. It looks like the corporate world is fully embracing those benefits too as more and more companies are beginning to understand and value the time challenges that their employees face.

The User Experience is King
Pretty much every industry has been trying to perfect the user experience for years and each one has its own challenges. One of the biggest challenges faced in the education and training world is learner retention. Besides the fact that people learn differently, the reality is that sitting someone down in front of a video and expecting them to pay attention during the entirety is not likely to lead to success. Training Journal's Tiffany Harper talks about the importance of engaging learners and adding interactive elements in order to overcome this challenge.

And as if all of that wasn't enough, Forbes' Daniel Newman writes about technology's ability to make learning accessible. Technology has made it possible for us to empower more learners across the world and that's pretty fantastic. We're excited to see the future that learning accessibility brings in 2020 and beyond.
